It used to be that if your household water supply was from a well, and it tasted alright, and it was clear to the sight, you didn't have to worry about drinking it. Unfortunately, those days are pretty much a thing of the past. Well water purification is no longer a luxury.

Even if you are not near a factory or a farm, and you have a crystal ball that assures you the neighbors are not dumping anything into the ground, the fact is, the water that falls as rain, and then seeps into your water supply is filled with industrial chemicals.

Bottled water is not the solution for two simple reasons. First, it is not consistently purified. Researchers test one batch one week that passes with flying colors, and then a second batch a week later and tests show dangerous levels of several contaminants.

Even if there ever is a bottled water company you could rely on, they all use plastic bottles which leak a chemical called, bisphenol A, (BPA), which has been linked to all kinds of health issues, including cancer, birth defects, and the development of female breasts on men.

In the USA, the Food and Drug Administration has denied any problems for years, in the face of sharp criticism from a number of consumer groups, but they recently reversed their position, without doing anything about it. The solution is to use a water purification system, and drink from glass or porcelain containers.

Keep an old fashioned glass container, the kind your mom used to make lemonade in, filled with water in your refrigerator if you want cold water. Stay away from storing anything in plastic that you are going to consume.

The most complete type of purification system is called whole house filtration. It is located at the main water pipe so that all water sources in your home have purified water, including your faucets, bathtubs and showers, automatic ice cube maker and even your washing machine.

There are more localized options that filter the water at individual faucets, including shower heads and sinks. The sink filters can either be under the sink or on the counter top.

The great thing about all of these is, unlike city water systems, which use dangerous chlorine and other chemicals to kill contaminants, they have do not use that kind of harmful technology. A well water purification system is a gift of love for every member of your family. It is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.
